Cheema labels Cong manifesto a bundle of lies

A day after the Congress released its manifesto for the municipal corporation elections, the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal termed the document as “a bundle of lies” and said that the Opposition was “trying to build castles in the air”.

A day after the Congress released its manifesto for the municipal corporation elections, the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal termed the document as “a bundle of lies” and said that the Opposition was “trying to build castles in the air”.

“The Congress it seems was in a hurry to release the manifesto and didn’t even bother to check that the promises it has made are not under the jurisdiction of the civic bodies but are concerned either with the state or central government,” SAD spokesman Daljit Singh Cheema said on Saturday.

He said it was ironical that the a party, which is neck deep in corruption is assuring the public of clean and corruption free administration. “The Congress and corruption are two sides of the same coin,” Cheema said.

He added that it was surprising that the Congress, which cleared a proposal to impose property tax in Haryana, was promising to not do so in Punjab. “One fails to understand how a national party is trying to befool the people of two adjoining states,” the SAD spokesman added.

Commenting on party’s promise that all its municipal counsellors would declare their assets in the first week of every financial year,Cheema said that the Congress had made a similar promise before the 2002 Assembly elections, but never fulfilled it.

“The Congress makes tall promises only to forget it once the elections are over. Amarinder Singh’s tenure as chief minister is a perfect example where the party backtracked from all the promises it made before winning the 2002 elections,” he added.

Cheema further said that the people of the state can understand the frustration and desperation of the Congress as its base was weakening and its leadership has failed to recognize the genuine concerns of its own cadres . He said that the way a number of its candidates withdrew from the election shows “what is actually happening inside the Congress.”

He said the Congress leadership should first set its house in order and start working for the betterment of the people instead of misguiding them.
