The Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) is likely to relax the zoning rules for CHB house owners in the city. This, after the Chandigarh Residents Federation submitted a memorandum to the housing board asking for various relaxations.
One of the major demands being looked into by the housing board is related to relaxing zoning rules without which more than half the residents will be unable to build a room in the backcourt yards. The present rule makes it mandatory for the owners to leave a 10-foot space from the front side before constructing a room. Other demands include allowing LIG flat owners to build washrooms on the first floor and coverage of void on the first floor in stair hall area in 582 HIG lower houses, among others.
Chandigarh Housing Federation chairman secretary Nirmal Datt said: We have placed our demands before the housing board officials and hope to get some relaxation.
A senior CHB official, meanwhile, added: We have received the demands from people. Many relaxations have already been made and everything within the permissible limits shall be considered and decided upon soon.
