Charges against Amritsar resident framed: Simran case

The district court on Saturday framed charges of murder and disappearance of evidence against Amritsar resident Tanmay Arora in the Simran murder case.

Simran Kundra,a native of Amritsar,was staying on rent in Sector 15 of Panchkula. She was studying fashion designing in Sector 8 of Chandigarh.

On night of April 30,Tanmay came to meet Simran,who was recently divorced from Karan Mehra—resident of Amritsar. Tanmay and Simran were supposed to marry soon.

When he reached her house in Sector 15,he found three boys—Vikramjit Singh,Damandeep Puri and Varun Sharma,all residents of Chandigarh—present there.

She introduced Tanmay as her fiancee and requested them to leave. After they left,there was an argument between the two over the presence of boys.

He banged her head on the bathroom floor. When she shouted,he throttled her which led to her death. He packed her body in his car and threw it on a vacant plot in Jalandhar.

On May 1,the police found an abandoned Chevrolet Beat. After going through the documents in the car,the police called Simran’s father Rajesh Kundra and informed him.

Kundra told the Panchkula police that the house in Sector 15 was locked and their daughter was missing.

He told the police that in the morning they received a SMS from their daughter’s mobile phone that said: “Karan and his gang kidnapped me and taking me to Jalandhar… Save me from him. I want to live he will kill Tanmay also.”

Kundra said they received another SMS after half-an-hour that said: “Those people are…and they have same car as that of Tanmay. They have plan to kill me. After that they will kill Tanmay also.”

Simran’s partially decomposed body was recovered from Jalandhar on May 3.

Karan told police that he was with his family in Vrindavan on the evening of April 30.

The call details revealed that Simran’s last telephonic call was to Tanmay and they spoke for about 15 minutes. Tanmay’s mobile location confirmed that he came to Panchkula,and from there he moved to Jalandhar and then to Amritsar. He was arrested on May 13.

The police also found out that the text messages were sent by Tanmay from Simran’s mobile phone after murdering her to implicate Karan Mehra.

Tanmay threw the phone on Jalandhar-Amritsar road.

Sessions Judge Manjit Singh framed charges under Section 302 (for murder) and Section 201 (for disappearance of evidence) against Tanmay Arora.
