THE MAN who provided fake documents to gangster Gurjant Singh alias Bholu, involved in drugs and weapons smuggling, has fled the country and the police have issued a lookout corner notice against him.
The identification of the man was said to be an important breakthrough for the police trying to break the nexus of Bholu’s gang and identifying their suppliers in Pakistan. Sources told Chandigarh Newsline that the man was identified as Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Jalandhar. Gurpreet was present in India till January 4, the day the district police announced the arrest of Bholu and his two accomplices from Sunny Enclave at Kharar.
After the arrest, however, Gurpreet fled the country. He is suspected to have gone to a Gulf country. Sources said that they had issued a lookout corner notice against Gurpreet, and alerted all the airports and ports across the country.
Sources said Gurpreet provided residence proofs of some residents of Bandala village, which falls under Goraya police station in Jalandhar district and managed to get a passport prepared for Bholu. Gurpreet was an agent and used to help people in making their passports and driving licences. He had some documents of residents of Bandala village on the basis of which he managed to prepare an Aadhaar card, driving licence and a ration card for Bholu which were later used for preparing the passport.
The passport, bearing serial number L8222159, was issued by Regional Passport Office in Jalandhar. Bholu used this passport to travel to Thailand in October 2015. There he met his Pakistani handler who provided him a Pakistani SIM card which was used by Bholu to call his Pakistani handler Imtiaz who sent many consignments of drugs and weapons to the gang. Later, the police identified another Pakistani link of Bholu as Nasir Khan.
Bholu and his two accomplices Sandeep Singh and Jatinder Singh Jidni were arrested by the district police on January 4 this year. The police recovered lethal weapons, including sten gun, .9mm pistols, two pistols of .30 mm, an air gun and 190 live cartridges from them.
After the arrest of Bholu and his gang, the police also arrested three BSF personnel who were posted on Rajasthan border and helped the gang in cross-border smuggling. The arrests exposed the BSF-smuggler nexus. Most of the smuggling was done through the Hindu Mal Kot area near the Rajasthan border.
