Chandigarhs Thiara upbeat about US Kids World Junior golf championship

After claiming one win and a second-spot finish in another tournament last month,Chandigarh golfer Vasundhra Thiara is ready to participate in the US Kids World Junior Golf Championships to be held at Pinehurst,North Carolina,USA to be held from August 1.

After claiming one win and a second-spot finish in another tournament last month,Chandigarh golfer Vasundhra Thiara is ready to participate in the US Kids World Junior Golf Championships to be held at Pinehurst,North Carolina,USA to be held from August 1. The nine-year-old golfer won all the seven per-qualifiers tournaments before winning the final qualifying tournament at Golden Greens Golf Course early this month and will be competing in the US event.

“It’s a great opportunity to take part in the US Kids World Junior Golf Championship. I was in fine form during the qualifiers and won all of them. It will act as a motivating force for me in the world championships. The championships will see the presence of junior golfers from all over the world and it will be a tough challenge for me. I will be leaving ten days early for the championship and I am aiming to do well,” shared the golfer.

Out of the seven per-qualifiers,Thiara won four tournaments with the highest score in any category and shot the same score as of the winners in the 2011 edition of the US Kids World Championship. Early in June,Thiara claimed the title in the Southern India Junior Golf Tournament before claiming the second spot in the Army Ladies and Amateur and Junior golf Championship held at Secundrabad. “The win in Bangalore boosted my confidence. The competition was tough there and the field included all the top-ranked golfers in India. Back-to-back top finishes in two tournaments means that I am in fine form. It will be the start of new domestic season,once I return and I want to win more tournaments,” expressed Thiara.

Apart from taking coaching from coach Jesse Grewal,Thiara is also taking mental conditioning coaching from former golfer Irina Brar. “Jesse sir has been spending time with me and I recently got in touch with Irina mam. She is helping me to strengthen mental aspect of the game and I am sure it will come handy in the US Kids World golf Championship,” said Thiara,who is a student of Vivek High School.
