Chandigarh MC: Pay property tax before May 31 to avail rebate benefits

The Municipal Corporation (MC), Chandigarh has called upon all property owners and institutions in the city to pay their property tax and service charges for the assessment year 2025-2026 (FY26) before the deadline of May 31, to avail rebate benefits and avoid penalties. MC Commissioner Amit Kumar emphasised that no further extension will be granted beyond this date.

Taxpayers can earn up to a 20 per cent rebate on residential properties and a 10 per cent on commercial, industrial, institutional, and government properties if payment is made by May 31 via online or cash, or by May 27 through cheque or demand draft.

“Timely payment of property tax ensures better delivery of essential municipal services and supports the city’s development,” said the MC Commissioner.

It was clarified that the payments made after May 31 will attract a steep 25 per cent penalty along with 12 per cent annual interest from April 1, until the date of payment.

In addition, garbage collection fees will be collected with the property tax for commercial, institutional, and government buildings where not already included in water bills. Government properties are liable to pay service charges amounting to 75 per cent of the applicable tax.
