A 26-year-old alleged chain snatcher,Naresh Kumar,who was admitted to the Government Hospital,Sector-6,Panchkula on July 5 after he suffered injuries on his head and legs while he was in police custody,alleged in court on Friday that he was beaten up during interrogation. The police,however,say that Naresh banged his head against the wall on July 5,causing self harm,before he could be presented before the Judicial Magistrate. A case was registered against him on grounds of attempt to suicide at the Sector-20 police station. Kumar had been arrested the night before on charges of theft and assault. He was produced before the court today and was remanded to police custody for five days. Naresh was last wanted by the Panchkula police in two cases of chain snatching. During investigation by the Criminal Investigation Authority (CIA),he revealed that he was involved in another such case and the third stolen chain is kept at his native place in Uttar Pradesh. A Police team will leave for Sadakpur tonight for further investigation,said Surjit Singh,Investigating Officer of CIA.
