CCTV surveillance in Panchkula soon

Cameras to be installed at 17 locations, to also pave way for launch of e-challaning system for traffic violations

cctv-panchkula759 The project, worth Rs 2.44 crore, is being executed by Panchkula-based Door Sanchar Systems. The Municipal Corporation had asked the company to finish the project within eight months.

The first phase of the installation of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in Panchkula is likely to become functional by March-end.

As many as 56 CCTV cameras, including 10 rotating cameras, will be installed across the town. The project will not only bring the entire town under e-surveillance, but it will also pave way for the launch of e-challaning system for traffic violations.

As part of the plan, the data of all vehicles registered with the Regional and Transport Authority will be linked with the server, and any traffic violation at the selected point, where CCTV cameras are installed, will lead to automatic generation of e-challans. The location where the e-challaning system will be started in the first phase is yet to be finalised.

The project, worth Rs 2.44 crore, is being executed by Panchkula-based Door Sanchar Systems. The Municipal Corporation had asked the company to finish the project within eight months.

The cameras will be installed at 17 locations, and the Control Room will be at the Sector 14 police station. A hybrid networking system is being put into place, which involves transmission through wireless signals and optic fibers.

“Since we are covering a large area, both systems have been put into place. The transmission from 12 locations in the town will take place by optic fibres, while, for the far-end points in the periphery, towers will be installed for wireless networking,” said Rajiv Batra, Executive Chairman, Door-Sanchar Systems.

A network of 13.5 km optic fibres has already been laid down in the town, while work on the last stretch that extends from the Sector 5-6-7-8 roundabout to Singh Dwar, at the entrance of Mansa Devi Complex (MDC), is currently under progress. The towers will be installed at Dolphin Chowk in MDC and Ramgarh T-point, on Hallomajra-Panchkula road, and in sectors 19 and 14.
