Driver of speeding car picks up boy on the pretext of taking him to hospital but dumps him on the way
A three-year-old boy lost his life after being hit by a speeding car near the Sector 29-30 traffic signal on Thursday. The driver of the car,suspected to be a radio taxi,first ran over the boy,Sonu,and then picked up the profusely bleeding child on the pretext of taking him to hospital,but dumped him near the Sector-18 Church,police said. The boy was then spotted by a passer-by and taken to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital,Sector 16,where he later died.
Sonus father Ram Sarup pulls a rickshaw for a living,while mother Ram Piyari works as a domestic help. He was youngest of the couples five children. The incident occurred in the morning when Sonu,accompanied by other children,had gone to the Sai Mandir in Sector 29 to partake langar.
On their way back,the children were crossing the road when the speeding car hit Sonu. According to eyewitnesses,it was a radio taxi driven by someone wearing a turban. The driver of the car stopped and told the panicked children that he would take Sonu,who was still alive,to hospital and put him in the car,the police said. The boy was later found by one Mandeep Singh,a resident of Manimajra who was passing by the area,in Sector 18.
The child had sustained serious head injuries and was bleeding profusely. I requested autorickshaw drivers and other people to help me take him to hospital. But no one came forward. I somehow managed to take the child to GMSH-16. After around 25 minutes,doctors told me that the child had died, said Mandeep.
Ram Piyari said when the other children narrated the incident to her,she asked her eldest son Rakesh to find out where Sonu was taken. At GMSH-16,he was told that his brother was no more.
The police have registered a case under Sections 279,304 A and 201 of the CrPC for rash driving,causing death due to negligence and destruction of evidence. One of the eyewitnesses told the police that while he could not read the series of the cars registration number,its last four digits were 9984.
L K Khurana,president of Lions Welfare Society,brought the family to the Industrial Area police station,where the case was registered. He said he was passing by the traffic signal when he saw the crying family and decided to help them.
