Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Jagbir Singh recorded his statement in the ongoing Burail Jail break case trial on Friday even as the court allowed an application, moved by the relatives of convicts Jagtar Singh Hawara and Paramjit Singh Bheora, seeking permission for the duo to have home made food.
Amid tight security,Hawara and Bheora, the two Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terrorists convicted for the assassination of former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh, were produced in the district courts in connection with the infamous jailbreak case. The UT Police has beefed up security in and outside the court complex after Hawara was attacked during a court hearing in Chandigarh,a few months ago.
The two were brought from Tihar Jail in the national capital, where they are currently lodged,to face trial in the 2004 New Delhi blasts case.
The duo were shifted from Burail Jail in Chandigarh to Tihar Jail in New Delhi in 2004.
The relatives of the Hawara and Bheora, meanwhile, raised slogans outside the court complex for not allowing the duo to have home made food.
The court has now deferred the hearing of the main case for September 18 while further cross-examination of DSP Jagbir Singh has been moved to July 23.
