The BSP will not be part of any alliance,in the state, for the forthcoming Assembly polls and the party claims that it will be a four-pronged contest in Punjab this year even as it released a list of 90 candidates for the elections.
Addressing a joint press conference here on Monday,Narendra Kashyap, the BSPs national general secretary and Avtar Singh Karimpuri BSP Punjab president said: The BSP will not tie-up with any other party as it is fighting the forthcoming elections on its own and thus we declare 90 candidates as of today and the rest of the candidates will be declared in couple of days after consultations between the state unit and the party high command.
We have no talks with any party in the state, they added before categorically denying that the party leaders had met with the Peoples Party of Punjab chief Manpreet Singh Badal.
None of our leaders met Manpreet and he also never approached us. In the May 29 meeting which was attended by the BSP,supremo Mayawati made it clear that there will be no tie-up with any party in the state, they said.
The duo also claimed that this time the elections will be a a four way contest and are of the opinion that the Sanjha Morcha will benefit the BSP. In all the previous polls some 15 to 20 seats where the winning margins are less then 2,000 votes there with the Morcha cutting votes can help BSP candidates,as at these seats either our candidates last time were second or third now our position will be stronger this time, they said.
