Air Marshal SP Singh is new chief of Southern Air Command

Chandigarh:Air Marshal Satish Pal Singh has taken over the Command of Southern Air Command. An alumnus of Sainik School,Kunjpura,the Air Marshal hails from Kurukshetra,Haryana. Singh was commissioned into the flying branch of Indian Air Force in 1974. He is a Qualified Flying Instructor and has recorded over 6,800 hours of flying in various aircraft. He has also undergone Political & Strategic Higher Study Course in Brazil during 2007. Singh has been awarded with Vayu Sena Medal and Ati Vishisth Seva Medal.

907 new polling stations in Punjab

Chandigarh: The Election Commission of India has accepted the recommendations of Chief Electoral Officer of Punjab for rationalisation of polling stations in the state ahead of assembly elections,the chief electoral officer CEO Kusumjit Sidhu said on Tuesday. The number of polling stations,after rationalisation,in Punjab has been increased to 19,724,from the earlier 18,817.

Youth dies in jail,kin protest

AMRITSAR: A youth,identified as Bawa Singh,recently arrested on charges of mobile-snatching,reportedly died inside the Central jail late on Monday. Jail superintendent TS Maur said that Bawa complained of chest pain. The jail doctors referred him to the civil hospital but he died soon after. Bawa’s relatives blocked Ratan Singh Chowk road alleging that he was not provided medical assistance.
