Harsimrat for degree college for girls in each constituency
Bathinda: Bathinda MP and Nanhi Chhan Foundation patron Harsimrat Kaur Badal said she would request the Punjab government to set up at least one degree college for girls in every constituency of Punjab to open avenues of education for them. Underlining that education alone could get women equal rights in society,Harsimrat,while addressing the first all-women conference in Mansa on Sunday,said women would have to stand up for their rights,especially against social evils like dowry and female foeticide,and protect their identity.
Lawyers threaten to resume agitation
AMRITSAR: The Amritsar Bar Association has threatened to resume their agitation by suspending work from Monday if action was not initiated against District Transport Officer Jasbir Singh and his staff members who had allegedly manhandled and humiliated a young lawyer in his room two weeks ago. Taking a positive step in order to get the problem solved,we deferred the strike after the intervention of an administrative and inspecting judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and thereafter a deputation met Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal at his residence,who asked the chief secretary to take action. The deputation also met the transport minister who recommended the DTOs transfer. But the matter is prolonged under the garb of an inquiry, said Bar chief Pardeep Kumar Saini.
