Centre accepts rice millers demand
Chandigarh: The Government of India has accepted the long pending demand of Punjab rice millers to relax specification for acceptance of rice in the case of damaged grain. The damage percentage has been enhanced from 3 per cent to 4 per cent without any value cut. The Centre had initially agreed to grant relaxation in the incidence of damaged grains from 3 per cent to 4 per cent but with full value cut. Not satisfied with the granted relaxations,Punjabs Food and Supplies Minister,Adesh Partap Singh Kairon,had again met ministry authorities in New Delhi recently.
Youth must work to improve society: Dhalla
Amritsar: Canadian MP Ruby Dhalla on Tuesday said Punjabi youth should work hard to improve society. Delivering a special lecture on the request of Guru Nanak Dev Universitys Political Science Department,Dhalla said the youth must keep in mind the conditions of the underprivileged and economically weaker sections who do not have direct access to basic education and minimum requirements of food,shelter and clothes. Professor AS Brar,Vice-Chancellor of the University,presided over the function while Dr Inderjit Singh,Registrar,welcomed the chief guest and other dignitaries. Dr Kuldip Singh,Head of the Department,gave an introduction.

Jalandhar: Tuesday was the coldest day of this season in Jalandhar as Adampur shivered at minus-0.5 degrees Celsius. After Srinagar,Jalandhar was the coldest centre in north India.
Nigerian dies in Nabha Jail
Patiala: Kodey (45),a Nigerian national lodged in the Nabha High Security Jail under the NDPS Act died under mysterious circumstances on Monday night. Sources said Kodey had bled from his nose last evening.
