SGPC election schedule declared

CHANDIGARH: The Chief Election Commissioner,Gurdwara Elections,Justice (retd) HS Brar announced the election schedule for the Shiromani Gurudwara Parbhandhak Committee (SGPC) to be held on September 18. The dates for filing of nominations would be from August 4 till August 11 (both days inclusive). The scrutiny of the nominations will be done on August 16,while the revision orders of scrutinised nomination papers will take place on August 18 and 19. On August 23,the applications shall be decided by the concerned deputy commissioners (DCs) while August 26 has been fixed for the candidates to withdraw candidature. The list of polling stations will be posted on August 29 and 30. The results will be declared on September 22.

Brar also asked the DCs to give details of the sensitive polling booths in their areas.

MGNREGA workers to boycott test

AMRITSAR: Hundreds of MGNREGA workers have decided to boycott the computer test scheduled for them on August 5 here,calling the test unnecessary and illegal. Sitting on dharna in front of the office of deputy commissioner Rajat Aggarwal’s office here,the workers alleged that the DC has refused to accept their demand of not imposing the test on those who have been working to implement MGNREGA schemes in the district.

NCC camp begins in Jalandhar

JALANDHAR: A 10-day long Combined Annual Training Camp organised by the 21 Punjab Bn of NCC,Kapurthala began on Thursday at the old location of 19 Dogra,Jalandhar Cantt. A total of 615 cadets including girls will receive intensive training in various disciplines.

SDM begins probe in toll plaza encounter

NAWANSHAHR: Nearly two weeks after an alleged encounter left one person dead and a child injured and Berham Toll Plaza,the SDM,Nawanshahr,Veer Pal Singh has started the enquiry into the incident after procuring the CCTV footage. The Nawanshahr DC Nawanshahr had marked a magisterial enquiry into the incident that took place on July 19.
