With the official website of the Amritsar Improvement Trust (AIT) not working for the last two days, thousands of applicants for the residential plot scheme floated by AIT are in a fix. They have no other way of knowing the results of the draw of lots for the 336 plots, which was held in the presence of Local Bodies Minister Manoranjan Kalia and MP Navjot Sidhu here on Monday. “There is no information regarding the application status, either. Officials in the AIT office are also not picking up the phones,” said Sarbjit Singh,a professor from Jalandhar. He said clicking on the relevant links was flashing messages like “you don’t have permission” or “forbidden error”. In total,18,130 applicants had applied for the 336 plots. AIT Chairman Sanjiv Khanna said a major technical fault had occurred in their website due to an “overload of request” for results and the mammoth data. “We are working to rectify the snag at the earliest,” he said.

Majithia bats for youth

What may not come as a good news for the old timers,Youth Akali Dal patron Bikram Singh Majithia announced on Tuesday that he would like the party to field the young blood for both SGPC and the 2012 Vidhan Sabha elections. Majithia was addressing a rally at Moga. Comparing the UPA government to that of Hosni Mubarak’s in Egypt,Majithia said: “The public is fed up with the Congress as it has made the life of aam adami miserable by unleashing an unprecedented price hike of essential commodities besides plundering the hard earned money of taxpayers through various scams. The citizens of the country will now throw Gandhi family out of the country as the people of Egypt has recently done with the dictator President,Hosni Mubarak.” Attacking Captain Amarinder Singh,Majithia said the “powerless” Punjab Congress chief who had not been even authorised to name his office-bearers in the last four months was trying to befool Congress leaders by announcing their candidature for the next Vidhan Sabha elections.

Congress hits out at Sukhbir

District Congress Committee (Rural) head S R S Lally Majithia reacted strongly to the offer made by Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal to the Congressmen to make them state guests and take them on a tour of Punjab to watch the development that has taken place during the current regime. He said Sukhbir and his brother-in-law and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia had only made “tall claims” and did nothing on ground. “They talked of freeways and Metro rail in all cities and making the state power surplus, which have turned out to be a farce,” he said.
