By holding six meetings in the next few days,Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal will start his campaign for the Shimla Municipal Corporation polls slated for May 27.

SHIMLA: By holding six meetings in the next few days,Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal will start his campaign for the Shimla Municipal Corporation polls slated for May 27. While on Wednesday he will take part in two meetings — one at Bolieu Ganj and the next in town’s Lower Bazar — he will address four other meetings on May 24 and 25. Till now,only cabinet ministers,MLAs and party officer-bearers were campaigning in the wards.

Rajasansi Youth Cong prez joins SAD

CHANDIGARH: Youth Congress president of Rajasansi circle Kulwinder Singh joined Shiromani Akali Dal in the presence of Revenue and Public Relations Minister and Youth Akali Dal President Bikram Singh Majithia on Tuesday. Welcoming the leader,Majithia offered a siropa (robe of honour),and said that it indicated the Congress’s collapse in the state before the upcoming local body elections. The minister assured that Kulwinder would be given due respect and responsibility in the SAD fold. Kulwinder Singh said he was influenced by the people-friendly policies of Akali Dal,and would work for the success of SAD-BJP in the forthcoming polls.

EU wants to work with Haryana?

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana government on Tuesday claimed that the European Union expressed keen interest to work with the government,as the ambassador and head of delegation of the European Union to India Joao Cravinho called on Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and discussed various issues of mutual interest. “The state government has supported Foreign Direct Investment in the retail sector as it would help farmers and people,” Hooda told Cravinho. A Haryana spokesperson said Cravinho expressed interest in the cluster development for Micro,Small and Medium Enterprises.

Haryana plans child protection panels

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana government has decided to constitute Child Protection Committees at state,district,block and village levels to monitor the implementation of Integrated Child Protection Scheme. Women and Child Development Minister Geeta Bhukkal said financial commissioner and principal secretary of Women and Child Development Department would be chairperson of the state-level committee. Other members of the committee included financial commissioners and principal secretaries of Health,School Education,Labour,Housing,Jail and Judicial and Home Departments,Railway division general manager,local bodies’ directors,Haryana State Child Welfare Council secretary,Haryana State Red Cross Society secretary and representative from Childline India Foundation. Director of Women and Child Development Department would serve as Member Secretary of the Committee. The Committee will meet quarterly.

5 biomass projects to come up in Haryana

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government has decided to set up five bio-mass projects at the cost of Rs 230 crore to generate about 51-MV power for which it signed a Memorandum of Understanding with four companies. A spokesperson of Renewable Energy Department said on Tuesday that two of the projects would soon be completed. “The state government had set up four Micro-Hydro Power projects,including 6-MW power project in Dadupur for Rs 58 crore,2-MW project in Gogripur at a cost of Rs 22 crore,Rs 16-crore project at Musapur to generate 1.4 MW power and another project of 1.4 MW at Khukhni,” the spokesperson added.
