Briefly Region: NRI gives up Sabha membership

JALANDHAR: Accusing the Punjab NRI Sabha of adopting an indifferent attitude to its members,a Canada-based NRI returned his membership card to the organisation at its office in Jalandhar on Wednesday. Gurbakhash Singh Sahota said he had acquired the Sabha membership in 1998 but added that he never received any help in a land dispute despite repeated complaints to the Sabha. “I was among the first NRIs to gain membership in 1998 but the Sabha’s attitude to its members is is pathetic and I don’t want to be a part of it any more,” Sahota said.

Shimla scientist wins national award

Shimla: A senior scientist at the Himachal Forestary Research Institute (HFRI),Ranjeet Singh,has been selected for the prestigious National Award for Excellence in Forestry for the years 2008-2010 for his two year-long pathbreaking scientific work on Pheromone Technology. He concentrated his research on the severely infested Chir-pine trees in the Barsar forest range in Himachal Pradesh.
