8-month-old dies in house collapse
Amritsar:An eight-month old infant Komal died on Monday night in a house collapse incident in Krishan Nagar here. Her parents,Raman and Mamta,also sustained injuries after a section of their house,near Jaura Railway Crossing,caved in due to the rains. The three were taken to hospital,but Komal succumbed to her injuries.
Man gets death for killing children
Hoshiarpur:A local court on Tuesday awarded the death sentence to a man accused of setting fire to his wife and children. While both his children died,his wife sustained serious burn injuries. The court of Additional sessions judge J S Bhinder pronounced the death sentence to Jasveer alias Jaswinder Singh of Kallowal village in Dasuya block. Police said Jasveer,a mason,was an alcoholic and on January 28,2011,in a drunken stupor,he allegedly set his two sons,Lakhwinder (4) and Luvpreet (5),and wife Narinder Kaur on fire while they were sleeping.
Haryana bags Aero Club award
Chandigarh:The Haryana Institute of Civil Aviation has been rated as the second best performing flying academy in the country by the Aero Club of India,New Delhi for the year 2011-2012. The Institute has won the trophy for the second time,the first coming in 2008-2009.
Sick newborn care units in Haryana
Chandigarh:Hospitals across Haryana will have sick newborn care units by 2013. This was disclosed by state Health Minister,Rao Narender Singh on Tuesday while he was presiding over a state-level meeting of officers of the health department. While taking a serious note on cases of women deliveries and infant deaths in government hospitals,Rao Narender Singh said that any negligence would not be tolerated in the programmes related to mother and child care.
4 IAS officers transferred
Shimla:Himachal Pradesh government late on Tuesday posted Munish Garg,secretary (finance) as Shimla Divisional Commissioner while R D Nazim,registrar (cooperatives) and director (energy has been posted as Kangra Divisional Commissioner. B R Verma has been posted as Mandi Divisional Commissioner in place of R S Negi,who returns to Shimla as MD,HP Agro Industries Corporation.
Three of a family killed in road mishap
Chandigarh:Three of a family,including a father-son duo,were killed and two others were injured when the car in which they were travelling rammed into a tree near Bhivan village in Sirsa district late on Monday. Bhivan village resident Buta Singh (45),who was on way home with his family after attending a marriage in Sirsa,lost control of the vehicle and was killed alongwith his son Kala Singh (20) and a relative Ajmer Singh.
Punjab chief secy on Pakistan visit
Chandigarh:Punjab Chief Secretary Rakesh Singh will leave for Pakistan on Wednesday,as part of a delegation of headed by Union Commerce Secretary S R Rao. Rao will visit Pakistan with an 18-member delegation for talks with his Pakistani counterpart Munir Qureshi.
