The SGPC has decided to stay away from the ongoing controversy over a liquor company advertisement that spoofs cricketer Harbahjan Singh.

JALANDHAR: The SGPC has decided to stay away from the ongoing controversy over a liquor company advertisement that spoofs cricketer Harbahjan Singh. It may be noted that Harbhajan’s mother Avtar Kaur had served a legal notice on Vijay Mallya’s U B Spirits for hurting Sikh sentiments in the advertisement,in which Team India captain M S Dhoni mocks the spinner’s look-alike. SGPC President Avtar Singh Makkar on Thursday said Sikh community has nothing to do with the controversy and asked,“Why,in the first place,did Harbhajan appear in a liquor brand’s advertisement.” Bhajji is after money,Makkar said,adding that the cricketer had not listened to the SGPC earlier also when he appeared in an advertisement with open hair.

Cops book two BJP leaders

JALANDHAR: With the pressure mounting on them ,the police on Thursday booked two BJP leaders also in the death case of one Naveen Randev,62,of Basti Peer Daad area. A RSS leader has already been mentioned in the FIR along with 10 to 12 other unidentified persons. Police took the supplementary statement from Amit Randev,the son of the deceased,in which he mentioned the names of two BJP leaders saying they had accompanied the RSS leader Rakesh Kapur Tinku along with several others on Tuesday night when his father was beaten to death. He had alleged that jis father was beaten on the behest of Tinku,who is allegedly also a partner in a contract work of Rail Coach factory (RCF),Kapurthala,with the deceased.

Three brothers attack,kill two

HOSHIARPUR: Two youths (cousin brothers) of Tajowal village were allegedly killed by three brothers of their (deceased) sister- in- law. In a complaint filed with the police,Prem Singh,father of Jasbir Singh Shera (23),said that his son along with two of his cousins,Jasbir (18) and Bhupinder,was returning from the work on Wednesday night when they were attacked by three persons namely Simarjit Singh alias Laqbha,Rachpal Singh alias Golu and Kulwinder Kaile,all brothers,with sharp edged weapons. “Bhupinder managed to flee and he informed us,” added Prem Singh. When they reached the scene the three attackers fled,but the youngsters were dead by then.
