CM for reservation for women in Parliament

LUDHIANA: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday said he had written to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh extending his support in favour of reservation for women in Parliament. Badal,while addressing women at a Teej festival organised at Khuyian Sarwar in Abohar,however,expressed concern over the widening male and female sex ratio in the state.

Panthic panel meets Bluestar victims’ kin

AMRITSAR: Saka Darbar Sahib Memorial Committee,set up by Dal Khalsa,SAD (Panch Pardani),Khalsa Action Committee and Panthic Sewa Lehar,on Sunday met the family members of June 1984 victims to seek their opinion about the location and shape of the memorial that will be built in the memory of those,who died in the Darbar Sahib attack 27 years ago. Committee member Gurtej Singh — a retired IAS — along with Dal Khalsa leader Kanwar Pal Singh and KAC chairman Bhai Mohkam Singh met around the family members of 44 members. They were handed over a questionnaire. The committee members will prepare the report based on the survey and submit it to the Jathedar of the Akal Takht and SGPC sub-committee before August 8.

Haryana govt pays for delay

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana government has released a sum of Rs 6 crore as interest on the outstanding amount of various social security schemes like old age allowance,pension to widows and destitute women,cash assistance to destitute children and eunuchs and allowance to Kashmiri migrants. Education and Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Geeta Bhukkal said the amount of pension and interest had been credited to the bank accounts of beneficiaries.

Ration cards for all eligible

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Union Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Minister,Kumari Selja,said all those eligible will receive yellow and pink ration cards after the new survey. Selja,who was redressing the grievances of the people of Ambala and Yamunanagar districts at her residence in Ambala on Sunday,also urged those who don’t require the facility but have cards to let the eligible poor benefit from the scheme.

Tourism ministry aid for Haryana

CHANDIGARH: The Union Tourism Ministry has provided a one-time grant to Haryana for setting up training centres to meet the acute shortage of trained manpower in the hospitality sector. State Industrial Training Minister Geeta Bhukkal said these hospitality wings will be established at the Industrial Training Institutes in Tosham,Rohtak and Karnal. The grant will cover infrastructural needs,while recurring expenditure like staff salary and training expenditure are to be borne by the state.

No breakthrough in jewellery loot case

AMRITSAR: Police have so far made no headway in the loot of jewellery worth Rs 50 lakh from a local jeweller by unidentified motorcycle borne youth on Saturday night. The police are preparing sketches. The incident occurred when gold merchant Naresh Mehta had closed his showroom at the plush Lawrence road area and was walking towards his house when robbers snatched the bag from him and fled.

Congress workers’ meet postponed

CHANDIGARH: The Congress Party Workers’ meeting of Hisar Lok Sabha Constituency which was to be held on August 1,2011 has now been postponed and rescheduled for August 4,2011.The meeting will be held at 11 am in the Hisar District Congress Committee office and BK Hariprasad,General Secretary,All India Congress Committee and party in-charge of Haryana,will be the chief guest.
