Breakfast diplomacy: SAD,BJP presidents to chose mayor,deputies

It was a breakfast diplomacy on display at Public Works Department Minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon’s residence early on Tuesday where the newly elected 39 councillors of the SAD-BJP alliance had gathered to discuss about the possible choices for mayor,and his deputies’ posts.

In the end,the councillors from the two parties gave the rights to their respective part presidents to do the honours. So,while SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal would now be naming the mayor,the state BJP president has been asked to pick men to man senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor’s posts.

Earlier,Ludhiana West MLA,Ranjit Singh Dhillon,read out a proposal in this regard,which was seconded by Simarjeet Singh Bains,the Atam Nagar MLA.

Bains,while addressing Dhillon,in a lighter vein said,“We had heard about the dinner diplomacy meetings,but a breakfast diplomacy meeting has been attended by us for the first time.”

However,Dhillon clarified that he had called the meeting on the directions of the party high command.

In BJP as well,their state general secretary Kamal Sharma read out the proposal,which was seconded by district president Parveen Bansal and later all the chosen 12 councillors raised their hands to accept the decision.

In the meeting,Irrigation minister Janmeja Singh Sekhon who was also the observer for the Ludhiana MC elections,said,“The councillors must work in coordination with each other for the all-round development.”

Sekhon stated that Rs 5500 crore is being spent on the various development works in the state,and Ludhiana will also be getting a good share out of it. SAD state general secretary Maheshinder Grewal also spoke on the ocassion.

Gabria absent

Former minister Hira Singh Gabria was conspicuous by his absence. Gabria and and PWD minister Dhillon are bnot at the best of the terms. Gabria had gone to a religious place along with his newly-elected councillor son Rakhwinder Singh Gabria. Former minister Satpal Gosain too was absent after his daughter-in-law lost the polls.
