A man was arrested for allegedly killing his minor daughter on the outskirts of Ludhiana’s Gill village, late on Sunday, said police.
Inspector Avneet Kaur, SHO Ludhiana Sadar police station, said the accused identified as Naginder Kumar, a Bihar resident, strangled his 13-year-old daughter to death with her dupatta.
“The reason is still unclear as we are yet to interrogate him. The court has given a two-day police remand for interrogation. However, he confessed murdering his daughter,” said the SHO.
An FIR was registered on the statement of Saubhagyawati, mother of the victim.
Police said it might be a case of honor killing. According to police sources, the accused suspected that the girl was having an affair.
The accused was living in a rented accommodation in Bachhittar Nagar with his wife, and has three more children — two daughters and a son.
Police said the accused returned home from the fields Sunday evening. Minutes later, he took his daughter to the tubewell room in the fields on the pretext of some work where he killed her. Locals noticed the body and alerted the police. Police found that she was last seen with her father.
