Apolitical Parthi Bhatol was elected today as director of the Banas Dairy Board for the eighth term from Palanpur constituency.
Bhatol, the current chairman of Banas Dairy, was in a direct contest with his arch rival,Haribhai Chaudhary, the former BJP MP.
Counting for the 11 seats was taken up in the morning in which Bhatols panel won six while the Parivartan Panel headed by Chaudhary won five seats. Thus,it was not clear whether Bhatol would head the dairy as chairman.
Both rivals claimed to have obtained the favour of the three unopposed directors from Deesa,Tharad and Danta. Bhatol, however, claimed that the three directors are from his panel and the total number has gone to nine including those six members who were declared elected on Tuesday.
The election were due since December 14,2011,as three milk-collecting societies had moved the Gujarat High Court to hold elections as per the circular of the state government that envisaged giving equal representation to all talukas affiliated with the dairy cooperatives in the state.
