Bhagwant Mann accompanies Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on his first visit to Golden Temple
Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s joint visit to the Harmandir Sahib comes ahead of the monsoon session of the Punjab Assembly on Monday.

Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann arrived with their families in Amritsar on Saturday and paid homage at the Golden Temple.
This was the governor’s first visit to Amritsar. He was to visit the Golden Temple after being sworn in on July 31 but the trip was cancelled due to bad weather. On Saturday, the governor and Mann were accompanied by their spouses.
The joint visit to the Harmandir Sahib comes ahead of the monsoon session of the Punjab Assembly, called by Governor Kataria, on Monday. With Mann not sharing good relations with former governor Banwarilal Purohit, all eyes are on how the new governor will deal with the chief minister.
Governor Kataria’s meeting with senior officials soon after joining office had also raised eyebrows with the Opposition turning it into an issue.
Speaking to the media, Mann said that he would not respond to any political questions. The state had a new governor and they had come to the Golden Temple with their families to pay their respects, he said. Mann added that he prayed to God, asking for strength to work for the development of the people under their jurisdiction.
Governor Kataria said that it is because of this land, and the sacrifices of the Gurus, that India’s culture has been preserved to this day. He also mentioned that he visited the Golden Temple to pay his respects.
The governor added that he prayed for God’s blessings to enable him to work for the development of Punjab and Chandigarh, for peace and harmony in Punjab and the country, and for the nation to continue on the path of progress.
