Ban forward trading of essential commodities: BJP

Holding the Centre responsible for the sky rocketing prices in the country,BJP national general secretary J P Nadda demanded immediate ban on forward trading of essential commodities.

Forward training leads to artificial shortage and hoarding of foodgrains,he said while addressing the media here on Wednesday.

He said the life of a common man had become miserable due to the steep hike in prices of essential commodities.

He said the Centre had recently imported commodities including wheat and sugar and alleged a scam in the decision. He said sugar was exported at Rs 12.5 per kilogram and then imported at Rs 32 per kilogram. Similarly wheat was imported at Rs 18.5 per kilogram. He said before ‘Bharat Bandh’ on July 5,BJP will address 25 rallies in the country to mobilise and spread awareness among people about the wrong policies of the UPA government.

Earlier,the district unit of BJP held a protest in front of district administrative complex against price rise .

Chemist gives drugs in lieu of stolen goods,arrested

NAWANSHAHR: A case of purchasing stolen goods by chemists in lieu of psychotropic drugs has come to light. The Nawanshahr police arrested one person on June 28 in a theft case. The accused Raj Kumar of Rahon had stolen a video camera from the house of Dr Sunil Sabharwal. SSP Dr Narinder Bhargav said while investigation he revealed that he had sold the camera to a Ludhiana-based chemist in lieu of drugs. Police sources said Harsimran Singh purchased the camera for Rs 3,000 and gave him psychotropic drugs for the same amount. The police arrested the chemist under Section 411 of IPC and it was found that he did not have a valid licence. SSP Bhargava said investigations are on to check more such cases.
