Badals fly to Dubai on vacation

A day after enjoying a ride in the Delhi Metro,Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal left for Dubai and South Africa on vacation. His son and Deputy CM,Sukhbir Singh Badal,daughetr-in-law and Bhatinda MP,Harsimrat Kaur and their children accompanied the CM.

The Badals,sources in the party said,have taken a vacation following hectic month-long campaigning in the run-up to the January 30 Assembly polls. With EC deciding to declare the results on March 6 and the model code of conduct putting administrative machinery in Punjab in partial paralysis,the most influential family decided to take a break.

Back home,the cabinet meeting scheduled for February 21 has now been postponed to February 24 even though no final date has been declared by the Badals about their return to the state.

Also,no minister has been given charge to officiate as the chief minister. No minister has been given the charge of officiating chief minister. If there anything has to be cleared,it will be done by the CM over the phone, a senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader said.

The last time the family took a vacation together was nearly two years ago when they spent time at Ranthambore in Rajasthan. At that time CMs wife,Surinder Kaur Badal,was also alive.

In his present tenure,before this trip,the chief minister had toured abroad twice – once on an official four-day trip to Israel,Turkey and Egypt and second time on private visit to USA where his wife was undergoing treatment for cancer.

Comparatively,Sukhbir undertook six foreign trips – three of them being private visits to Indonesia and USA and officially to Brazil,Mexico,China and Iran.
