Baba Siddique murder: 33-yr-old nabbed from Ludhiana; 15 arrested so far

In a joint operation with the Mumbai crime branch, a team of Ludhiana Police on Friday arrested one Sujit Kumar Singh for the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique from Ludhiana.

Sujit (33), a resident of Kamraj Nagar, Ghatkopar, Mumbai, is the 15 arrest in the high-profile case. Sujit, fled Mumbai a month before the crime which took place on October 12, and was staying with his in-laws in Ludhiana, police said.

Inspector Kulbir Singh, SHO of Jamalpur police station, said that the accused was arrested from Roop Nagar, Bhamian Road in Jamalpur area of Ludhiana where he was hiding.

Ludhiana Additional DCP (investigation) Amandeep Singh Brar said Inspector Sham Nair along with his force from Mumbai Crime Branch come to Ludhiana and in a joint operation with Inspector Kailash and Inspector Vikramjeet from Ludhiana’s counter-intelligence wing and CIA-2 staff, apprehended the accused.

“According to Mumbai Police, the accused had done some transactions of Rs 25,000 in the account of another accused Nitin and provided him with logistic support. He has been handed over to Mumbai crime branch after the arrest,” said ADCP Brar.

In the hierarchy of the conspirators, Sujit was above Nitin Sapre and Ram Kanoujia (both arrested), police said, adding that Sujit took instructions from above and passed them to Sapre and Kanoujia.

Crime branch officer also traced his financial transactions with Kanoujia and Sapre. The money was given to the alleged shooters and others involved in the crime, he added. The masterminds used different people to provide money to the members of different “modules” of shooters hired for the killing of the NCP leader, police said.
