Assembly passes six bills without opposition

The Assembly passed six bills with voice vote in the absence of opposition members who staged a walk out to protest against Agriculture Minister Tota Singh.

The Punjab Assembly on Wednesday passed the Punjab Prisoners Good Conduct Amendment bill (temporary release) under which rape, murder and cruelty against children would be considered a heinous crime. The significant amendment bill also expanded the definition of family of an inmate from including only blood relatives earlier, to including the in laws and grandparents and relatives.

The Assembly passed six bills with voice vote in the absence of opposition members who staged a walk out to protest against Agriculture Minister Tota Singh.

The assembly also passed Punjab Protection of Investors Interest bill following the RBI guidelines under which the punishment to chit fund companies would be made more stringent. Among other legislation, the assembly passed the Punjab School Teachers Extension Service bill under which all the teachers would retire only on March 31.

Channi raises poor link roads issue
Congress MLA Charanjit Channi raised the issue of poor condition of link roads in the state in another calling of attention motion. He said such was the condition of the roads that one needs a a back massage after travelling on them.
