ASI among 2 persons killed in accidents in Panchkula

Two persons, including a police officer, were Tuesday killed in two separate road accidents here at Raipur Rani, Panchkula.
In the first accident, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Balwinder Singh, posted with the Dial-112 Emergency Response Vehicle at Raipur Rani police station, lost his life in a road accident early in the morning.
Police said that ASI Singh was returning to his residence in Jaggi Colony, Ambala, after completing his night shift. His private vehicle collided head-on with a speeding truck near Jatwar village on the Naraiangarh road. The collision was so forceful that the car was reduced to a mangled heap, leaving the officer critically injured.
Fellow Dial-112 personnel rushed to the site and took Singh to a nearby hospital. He was later referred to the Civil Hospital in Ambala City for advanced medical care, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. His body was sent for a post-mortem and the local police initiated a probe into the incident.
In a separate accident, later in the afternoon, Jageer Singh, a resident of Rampur village, died after being hit by a speeding truck while riding his motorcycle on the Trilokpur-Tangri Bridge. The truck struck him from behind, throwing him onto the road and causing severe injuries.
Passersby alerted emergency services, and Singh was rushed to the Civil Hospital in Sector 6, Panchkula. Despite medical efforts, he was declared dead on arrival.
Police reached the scene promptly, took custody of the body for autopsy, and registered a case against the truck driver responsible for the accident.
Police sources said that the driver was apprehended, although his identity had not yet been released.
