As CBSE deadline nears, city govt schools ill-prepared for website launch

As the last date for creating websites,as specified by the Central Board of Secondary Education, approaches, most government schools in the city are ill-prepared for the initiative.

As the last date for creating websites,as specified by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE),approaches, most government schools in the city are ill-prepared for the initiative. The central board had, last month, directed all 12,184 schools affiliated to it across the country,to create their own official websites by January 5. Most of Chandigarh’s government schools, however, are yet to even begin the process of data compilation.

Asked about the cause of the delay,DPI(Schools),Sandeep Hans said: “There are over a 100 schools in the city. Compiling the data and uploading it online consumes a lot of time. We could not begin the process since the schools were closed due to winter vacations over the last one week. We are trying to ensure that the process does not take more than ten days”.

The board had directed the schools to upload basic details including the total number of students, staff members, details of infrastructure, fee structure, number of seats in each class, qualification and specialisation of teachers.

As per officials,of the total 160 CBSE-affiliated schools in the city, about 70 institutions have websites that function properly. There are a total of 104 government schools in the city. Of these only five have created their websites so far. They include Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS) in sectors 16,23,10,and the ones in Raipur Khurd and Manimajra.

CBSE Regional Director RJ Khanderao0 said: “The key idea behind maintaining the websites is to allow quick access to key information about the schools. It helps a number of outstation students to explore the schools while planning to move to the city”.
