“Give 30,000 in one go or I will not do it (30,000 katha de nahi ta main nahi karna),” said JE Sukhwinder Singh, who was arrested by the CBI in a graft case, to complainant Bharat Kumar when the latter met him at his office in Manimajra, and recorded their conversation.

According to the CBI FIR, the transcript of the conversation recorded between  the complainant and the JE has established that accused Sukhwinder Singh demanded 30,000 from complainant Bharat Kumar for settlement of the matter.

The transcript of the conversation, which has been attached in the FIR of CBI, reveals that when accused Sukhwinder says “give 30,000 in one go or I will not do it”, complainant Kumar replies: 30,000 nagad chaiye ( 30,000 in cash). The accused then says “haan bilkul (Yes, Absolutely)”.

As per the transcript, Kumar asks Sukhwinder to give him one day’s time, but the accused didn’t.

The complainant had approached the CBI alleging that JE Sukhwinder Singh had been threatening action against the electrical meter at his residence. To avoid any punitive measures, the JE allegedly demanded a bribe of 50,000. However, after negotiation, the amount was reduced to 30,000. The JE then called the complainant to his office in Manimajra  to hand over the money.

Acting swiftly, the CBI laid a trap inside the electricity department office. As soon as the complainant handed over 30,000 to JE Sukhwinder Singh, the CBI officials caught him red-handed. Later, the agency registered a case against him on charges of corruption.
