AroundTown: Free parking passes cancelled

The Municipal Corporation on Wednesday issued formal orders for the cancellation of free parking stickers of all categories.

CHANDIGARH: The Municipal Corporation on Wednesday issued formal orders for the cancellation of free parking stickers of all categories. The decision was taken in the meeting of the General House held on Monday. Following a ruckus created over issuance of 406 passes in the name of the Mayor,she announced that all passes would be cancelled.

Parking contractors complain against MC

CHANDIGARH: Mayor Raj Bala Malik on Wednesday forwarded a complaint,from parking contractors to the Municipal Commissioner,against the civic body officials managing the parking lots. The complainants have alleged that the officials demanded a 5 per cent share from the amount paid for making city parking passes. The officials,meanwhile,have stated that the complaint was false and had no merit.

Sector 41 double murder trial on June 1

CHANDIGARH: The Sector 41 double murder case which took place last year will be heard by the Court Of Additional District and Sessions Judge Shalini S Nagpal. Trial in the case will begin from June 1. Kavita and her younger brother Gaurang were found murdered at the Sector 41 house on December 16 last year. Rahul,a distant uncle of the two victims was later arrested and charged with the murders.

YPS marks environment day

CHANDIGARH: Yadavindra Public School (YPS),SAS Nagar observed Environment Day on Wednesday. A special morning assembly was conducted where all members of staff and students took a pledge to contribute their services for the preservation of the environment. Following this was a song on nature by the school choir. “Every activity by humans should be taken in such a way that does not harm nature,” said Janajit Ray,Principal.

Sec 144 imposed
on hookah bars

PANCHKULA: The District Commissioner of Police(DCP) of Panchkula,Parul Kush Jain,has imposed Section 144 Code of Criminal Procedure(CrPC),banning hookah bars,which were serving tobacco molasses containing nicotine. The ban which comes into immediate effect in Panchkula District from May 30 and would be in force till July 29.
