AroundTown: Another UT portfolio shuffle

PCS officer S S Khara,who was holding the charge of Joint Secretary Finance,has now been relieved of the charge.

CHANDIGARH: PCS officer S S Khara,who was holding the charge of Joint Secretary Finance,has now been relieved of the charge. The posts of Joint Secretary Finance,Joint Secretary (Urban Planning,Engineering and Technical Education),Head of Department/ Government College of Art and the work relating to Home-II Branch has been handed over to T P S Phoolka. Phoolka who is a PCS officer is director,transport.

Nurses begin
hunger strike

CHANDIGARH: As many as 12 nurses began a hunger strike on Wednesday for the fulfilment of their long pending demands that have not been met by the Chandigarh Administration. Among the demands is that UT adopt the central pay scale and central civil service rules . Another demand is to fill up the vacant post at earliest. The nurses also want their designation to be changed to nursing officers.

No electricity in Sector 51

CHANDIGARH: The residents of Sector 51 faced electricity shortage with supply being disrupted throughout the day on Wednesday. Residents complained that there was no electricity supply from 1.30 pm till 7 pm. While supply was resumed for an hour,it was again disrupted till late in the night.
