CHANDIGARH: The Fire and Emergency Department of the Municipal Corporation conducted a fire evacuation drill at the Reserve Bank of India (RBI),Sector 17. The joint exercise was conducted on the request of internal security officer of RBI S Balamurugan. This evacuation drill was conducted to check the response time of various emergency departments. The condition of the fire fighting system installed in the RBI building was also tested.

Two policemen booked

CHANDIGARH: Five days after launching the facebook page to tighten the noose around traffic violators,the Chandigarh police has initiated disciplinary action against two of its men for violating traffic rules. The Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic),Vijay Kumar,said: “We have issued notices against the two policemen whose picture was uploaded on our facebook page while they were moving on a two wheeler without a helmet. We have also initiated disciplinary action against the duo.” The two have been identified as constable Dharm Veer and Satiywan,both associated with the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB).

Society seeks action in booth scam

CHANDIGARH: Lions Welfare Society demanded that action be taken in the booth allotment scam at Krishna Market in Sector 41.The members stated that if action is not taken within the next 15 days they would resort to a hungerstrike. Addressing a press conference,the president of the society L K Khurana said that action needs to be taken against those guilty as per the report submitted by former ADC P S Shergill. He said that while the report has been sent to the Administrator,action is awaited. Khurana also expressed concern over the corruption prevailing in the government departments and appreciated the move by Anna Hazare against corruption.

Cuttack officials visit Chandigarh

CHANDIGARH: A six-member team of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation,visited MC,Chandigarh on Wednesday. The team was here to study the best projects of MC. The delegation was briefed about the projects and working of the civic body. Mayor Ravinder Pal Singh informed about them of the new initiatives in Chandigarh.
