5 kg cannabis seized

CHANDIGARH: The Crime Branch of Chandigarh Police arrested a civilian and seized five kilos of cannabis from him. Police said Diwan Yadav a resident of village-Locki Bazar,Madhubani Bihar was arrested from Gurdwara Chowk during the intervening and recovered five kilos of Ganja (cannabis) from his possession. Police registered a case under Section 20 NDPS Act in Police Station-34,Chandigarh.

Brothers held while breaking locks

CHANDIGARH: Chandigarh Police arrested two brothers while they were breaking the lock of a booth in Phase I of Industrial Area. Police said on the brothers Pawan Kumar and Pankaj residents of village Khuri Gujra,Patiala were caught red handed while breaking the locks of the booth in front of Hyundai showroom Phase-I Industrial Area. Police registered a case under Section 457/380/411/34 of the IPC in Police station Industrial Area.

Two nabbed for pelting stones

CHANDIGARH: Police arrested two persons who were pelting stones at the dividing road of Sector 23/24. Police identified the accused as Preet and Avinash,residents of Sector 24. Police has registered a case in Police Station Sector 11,Chandigarh.

Woman arrested for fraud

CHANDIGARH: Chandigarh Police has arrested a woman for cheating people. Police said a complaint was lodged against Anu Sharma of Star Enclave,Sector 48-C,Chandigarh,alleging that Sharma cheated the complainants. Anu Sharma and her husband were running a travel business and had allegedly assured them that they would be sent abroad and had even obtained their passport and Rs 15.1 lakh. And she neither sent them abroad nor returned their money. Police said that after the initial investigations,Anu Sharma was arrested on Wednesday.

Youth burnt while putting up electric pole

Panchkula: A youth today got burnt while putting up an electricity pole on NH 22 on the road between Sector 12 and 3 at about 10 am. A high tension wire pulled Ramandeep (22) towards itself. After this,the power got switched off but he was burnt badly by that time. He was immediately shifted to General Hospital,Sector 6,from where after preliminary treatment he was shifted to PGI.

Civic body increases water supply

Chandigarh: The Municipal Corporation has increased the water supply by one million gallons daily by making five tubewells operational. The work for installation of 17 more tubewells is going on. The Water Supply and Sewerage Disposal Committee of Municipal Corporation in a meeting held today asked the officials to make the tubewells functional. Five new tubewells were installed in Manimajra,Maloya,Palsora and Sector 45.

Steps to rehabilitate sex workers

Ambala: The Ambala District administration has taken steps for rehabilitation of sex workers in the district. This is in implementation of orders from the Supreme Court directing the states of Haryana and Punjab “ to come forward with specific schemes for giving technical training to sex workers who want to get out of the rut they are in”. In accordance with Haryana Chief Secretary Urvashi Gulati’s orders,the district administration has identified 823 women sex workers for rehabilitation.
