Applications are being invited and the free rooftop solar power units will be provided on a first come, first served basis. Officials stated that the online forms for the same are available on the CREST website.

Dr Anish Garg suggested that upcoming vendor sites should be equipped with solar roofs. Hitesh Puri, chairman, CRAWFED, appealed to the RWA members that they must take the benifit of scheme launched by CREST and help the Chandigarh Administration in saving energy which is people-friendly.
Debendra Dalai, CEO, CREST and director, Department of Environment, was the chief guest on the occasion.
The programme started with a talk on prostate gland and prostate cancer by Dr (Prof) Santosh Kumar, dedicated urologist from PGI, Chandigarh, who asked participants to be healthy, happy and blessed for good prostate health. He advocated meditation, prayer, regular exercise, healthy food, weekly fasting to stay away from cancer.
S Sukhwinder Singh, project director of CREST, spoke about the RESCO Model of Solar Power for consumers with BOT (build operate transfer) basis model with representatives of residents’ welfare associations of Chandigarh. A detailed presentation was made to the participants consisting of representatives from various RWAs where monetary as well as environmental benefits were explained in detail.
Dalai added that this model has been approved after three years of continuous follow-up and hearings with JERC (Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission). He said that JERC has made sure that the interest of consumers applying under this RESCO model stays intact. He also advocated people to adopt a lifestyle which is in harmony with man and nature alike. “Otherwise, these days we humans are the cause of irreversible damage to mother earth,” he said.
Dalai gave a mantra of eat green, be green, act green for green living and to achieve the target of carbon-neutral Chandigarh by 2030. He added that anyone can apply for a free rooftop solar power unit in Chandigarh by March 31, which will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Rajat Malhotra, Rajesh Rai, K L Sachdeva and R L Goel too participated and expressed their respective views for awareness of solar energy among the residents of Chandigarh.
The programme ended with a vote of thanks by CRAWFED chairman Puri.
