Asserting that it was highly condemnable and unfortunate that the holy Harmandir Sahib was used as a protest site “at the behest of the Akalis”,state Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh on Sunday slammed the protesters who waved black flags at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh while he was paying obeisance at the Golden Temple.

Amarinder accused the Akali-BJP leadership of being behind the whole episode to gain cheap publicity. He alleged that some protesters were clearly Akali-BJP workers and had hidden themselves under the garb of devotees. Amarinder further said the protesters had not only shown disrespect to a devout Sikh like the prime minister but had violated the sacred sanctity of the Darbar Sahib as well.

“Only the Akalis who have already lost the battle could be expected to stoop so low to use a holy place and sacred occasion for scoring petty political points even if it meant violating the sacred maryada in the process”,he remarked, while adding,“they (the Akalis) will never be forgiven for this incident”.
