Akali Leader kills family, self
The daughter had come home on a break from Canada; the father was on anti-depressants for a decade now.

In a horrific incident on Saturday evening in Barnala’s Ram Rajya Colony, an Akali leader took the lives of his 85-year-old mother, 21-year-old daughter, pet dog, and then himself. The man, identified as Kulvir Singh Mann, was in his mid-50s. His mother, Balwant Kaur, and daughter, Nimrat Kaur, were also found dead at the scene, along with their pet Pug.
The tragedy was discovered around 7:15 pm when Ramandeep Kaur Mann, Kulvir’s wife, returned home from the market to find the main gate locked from the inside. Unable to gain entry, she sought help from neighbors. Upon entering, they found the bodies lying in a pool of blood.
Barnala’s Senior Superintendent of Police, Sandeep Malik, stated, “The incident occurred around 6:30 pm on Saturday. Ramandeep returned at approximately 7:15 pm and discovered the scene.”
According to Ramandeep’s statement, Kulvir had been on anti-depressants for over a decade and had undergone surgery a few years ago. The police revealed that Kulvir used his licensed revolver for the crime. CCTV footage from within the house showed that Kulvir first shot his daughter, then his elderly mother and pet dog, before turning the gun on himself.
“Nimrat had been studying in Canada on a student visa and was in India on a break,” SSP Malik added. “Ramandeep is now the only surviving member of the family.”
While the police investigation continues, sources indicated that forensic experts and Barnala police have invoked Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, which applies in cases of suicide, murder, accidental
death, or death under suspicious circumstances.
The bodies will be handed over to family members on Sunday afternoon after postmortem examinations.
Kulvir Singh Mann had been intermittently active in Akali Dal programs and was often seen with SAD leader Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa and other party members. The police are continuing their investigation to uncover more details about this tragic event.
