After two-month delay,UT finally gets sub-panels

The UT Administration,on Wednesday,notified the sub-committees of the MC,after a delay of two months. The nine sub-committees had earlier been constituted and sent to the UT Administration for approval. This was done following objections being raised about the sub-committees not being part of the Municipal Act.

During the meeting of the General House held in January,the councillors of the BJP had objected to the practice of Mayor being authorised to constitute the committees. It was stated that apart from three sub-committees the others were not part of the Act. These were thereafter sent to the Administration for notification.

The sub-committees look after different departments including environment,water supply,enforcement,etc. These committees discuss the issues pertaining to their specific areas in detail.
