After much ‘heat’ in CLP meeting,Bali gets PCC “command” for Dec 22 protest rally

After a heated debate in the Congress Legislature Party on Monday morning, the state Congress unit has decided to go ahead with its proposed protest march and gherao of the state Assembly here on December 22.

After a heated debate in the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) on Monday morning, the state Congress unit has decided to go ahead with its proposed protest march and gherao of the state Assembly here on December 22.

“ It’s a PCC rally and it’s official now. PCC president Kaul Singh Thakur -who is recovering from an accident – will send his written address to be read out at the rally while AICC general secretary Birender Singh will lead the padyatra from Nagrota up to Zorawar Stadium – the nearest point to the Vidhan Sabha complex”,said former minister and Congress MLA,G S Bali, who was instrumental in getting the Pradesh Congress Committee to give its nod for the proposed agitation.

Union Minister Virbhadra Singh, however, will not attend the rally. “There is a whip from the Congress Parliamentary party as all sitting MPs are required to stay in Delhi for the Lok Sabha session. Virbhadra Singh will not be coming to the rally for this reason”,Bali said.

Earlier in the day, there was much drama in the CLP as Bali protested to CLP leader Vidya Stokes accusing some Kangra leaders and MLAs – most belonging to the Virbahdra Singh camp – of having chosen to create hurdles and confusion over the protest.

“ Why are some of the MLAs running a parallel mini-CLP ?” Bali had asked. After a furore,Stokes and the opposing MLAs reached a consensus and decided to extend their support to the agitation. This was evident as prominent Congress leaders from Kangra like former minister and MLA Sujjan Singh Pathania,Yog Ram,Nikhil Rajore ,Neeraj Bharti and Sudhir Sharma flanked Bali as he addressed the media regarding the rally and its objectives.

The agitation,Bali asserted would begin second phase of the Congress’ mass movement against the BJP government on the issue of corruption, discrimination, unemployment and land sale. He also referred to an alleged job scam involving a BJP leader from Dehra,Anita Sandal – who eventually had to obtain bail from the court after an FIR was lodged against her by the Kangra police.
