Religious ceremonies and holding of community kitchens marked Vishwakarma Day and Govardhan Pooja in Mohali,Kharar and other parts of the district on Sunday.
The labour class celebrates the occasion by worshipping Lord Vishwakarma, the God of craftsmen, and their tools.
Hundreds of artisans, toolsmen and others involved in mechanical occupations worshipped their tools and implements early in the morning and offered prayers at the Vishwakarma temples in the district.
Special functions were held at the temples,in which hundreds of devotees participated. The day was also observed as a holiday as machines and tools were not operated in factories and repairs were not undertaken.
To mark Govardhan Pooja, devotees thronged Sri Sanatan Dharma temples to offer prayers to Lord Krishna. As soon as the celebrations began in the morning, the devotees queued up at different temples to offer milk and flowers. Discourses on Lord Krishna were followed by kirtans.
Later, community kitchens were also organised at almost all the temples. Annakoot (a mixture of all fruits, dry fruits, vegetables and pulses) was the special dish prepared on the occasion, besides karhi and rice.
