Adding LED lights to the festival

The shopkeepers, however, complain that their business has been affected due to the availability of lights online.

TO ADD sparkle to the festival, a large variety of lights is available at city markets, with the most popular being the LED lights. Online portals selling lights are also gaining popularity. “The LED lights are the most commonly purchased this year,” says Jagjeet Singh, who runs a shop at the Sector 18 market which has around 28 shops, and most of them deal in fancy lights and appliances.

Singh maintains that people prefer these lights because they are cheaper and have low consumption.

He added, “There are different varieties of lights available for customers this Diwali. Rice bowl, rice, LED strip are among them.”

The shopkeepers, however, complain that their business has been affected due to the availability of lights online. “We have just 10 per cent work this year,” says Arjun, who works at one of the shops. “Several online portals are giving a huge discount, so why won’t a customer opt for it?”

The customers visiting the market assert that there are not many options available. “I have purchased few lights from here, and will also purchase more from Delhi, where you have a lot of new lights available,” said Karan, a resident of Sector 32.
