Ace shooter meets Dhumal,to be honoured in December

Ace shooter Subedar Vijay Kumar Sharma,who won three gold medals and a silver at the Commonwealth Games (CWG) in New Delhi,came to Shimla on Tuesday on invitation from Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal.

After getting a warm welcome from his village folk at Hamirpur a couple of days ago,Vijay hogged limelight again at the Secretariat here as he came to meet the CM.

People recognised him immediately and lined up for autographs.Vijay had a long chat with the CM. “I am happy to get so much of respect from the people of the state,” he said.

“I am headed back to my Army unit in Mau,from where I will go to Pune for training for Asian Games. An Olympic medal is my next target,” said Vijay.

Dhumal said the state would organise a big ceremony in December to honour the heroes of CWG from the state.

The CM said the government would soon make indoor shooting range available at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex while outdoor shooting range would also be established so that future shooters could be trained by experienced coaches.
