Accused in fake call centre scam gets court’s nod for honeymoon in Vietnam
The court also ruled that if witness statements are recorded in his absence, cross examination will be his responsibility

An accused in a multi-crore fake call centre scam requested permission to travel abroad for vacation after marriage. Lokendra Rajendra Chauhan, arrested by Punjab Police’s cybercrime department, sought court approval to visit Vietnam with his newlywed wife, citing his right to personal liberty.
“The accused has recently married and wants to travel with his wife, which falls under the purview of his fundamental right to life and personal freedom,” the counsel argued.
The public prosecutor, however, strongly opposed the plea, requesting its dismissal.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court allowed the trip but under strict conditions. The next hearing is scheduled for July 29, and the court warned that any violation will invite stern action.
The court granted permission for the trip from July 18 to July 28, with the condition that Chauhan must return to India by July 29. He is required to submit certified copies of his visa and flight tickets, along with a Rs 10 lakh bank guarantee, which will be forfeited if any terms are breached. The court also ruled that if witness statements are recorded in his absence, cross examination will be his responsibility.
On May 15, 2024, the Punjab State Cyber Crime Police busted two illegal call centres operating from Industrial Area, Phase-7 and Phase-8B, Mohali, arresting 155 individuals. The accused, including Chauhan, were allegedly defrauding foreign nationals using fake advertisements, spoofed URLs, and hacked gateways to impersonate tech support services. Payments were collected in fraudulent accounts with no services rendered or refunds offered.
