AAP wins 12 of 15 zones in SAD stronghold Majitha

Though historically ruling party always have the edge in Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samati elections, SAD has always maintained a win in the area which is a stronghold of Bikram Singh Majitha.

Of the total 15 zones in Majitha panchayat samiti in Amritsar district, the AAP has won 12 zones, the SAD one, and the Congress two zones.

It has been for the first time that SAD has faced such a defeat in Majitha in any election since 2007, which is one of the three assembly seats party won in 2022. The AAP victory amid with former local MLA and minister Bikram Singh Majithia is in jail in a disproportionate assets case.

AAP depended upon Talbir Singh Gill, a former close aide and close confident of Majithia to break SAD’s control over Majitha. Party has been winning this constituency since 2007 when Majithia won the seat for first time and now his wife Ganieve Kaur Majithia represents the constituency in the assembly.

Claiming that the people had stood with the Majithia family and former minister Bikram Singh Majithja who had been jailed, the SAD legislator said “large scale rigging has resulted in AAP stealing the election. First all officers were changed starting from the SSP to SHOs as well as the Deputy Commissioner and the Sub Divisional Magistrates. Then hand picked officers were deputed to prevent the opposition from contesting the election resulting in AAP candidates being declared elected unopposed in 22 out of the 33 Block Samiti seats”.
