At the 185th Baithak Programme, organised by Pracheen Kala Kendra on Tuesday evening,Indore-based vocalist Gautam Kale gave a scintillating performance. An accomplished vocalist,Kale received initial training in singing from his father,Kishore Kale, and later from Kunda Joshi and Pandit VG Ringe. Gifted with a resonant voice capable of smooth glides and soft modulations,Kale was impressive in his opening rendition — in the evergreen Raga Yaman. His composition Kahe sakhi kaise ke kariye… in Ek taal was followed by Pandit Jasraj’s bandish Ja re ja pagal manava, set to the cycle of 16 beats. At every turn,Kale maneuvered to reveal his impressive musical capability. The vibrancy was sustained in the next piece, which was in Raga Des. Towards the end,Kale once again proved his versatility by rendering Pandit Motiram’s bandish,Gale bhujang bhasm aanga. He concluded the recital with a Haveli Sangeet composition. He was accompanied by Mehmood Khan on the tabla and Muralidhar Soni on harmonium.
