As many as 8,023 cases of different categories were disposed off at a Lok Adalat held at UT District Courts,Sector 17,Chandigarh,on Saturday.
Cases pertaining to motor accident claims,matrimonial disputes,company,civil,rent and bank dispute cases were settled under the chairmanship of Justice Jasbir Singh,executive chairperson,State Legal Services Authority,Justice TPS Mann and Sessions Judge S K Goel.
As many as 502 cases were settled under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instrument Act (cheque bounce). In motor accident claim cases,compensation of Rs 16,85,000 was awarded to claimants. Rs 24,14,278 was disbursed to claimants in execution petitions,while Rs 18,10,450 was recovered from 7,231 traffic challans. Besides this,around 290 civil,rent,labour and other cases were also settled.
Judges appealed to people to resolve their disputes through Lok Adalats as it provided speedy justice and saved time and money of the litigants.
