A three-week UGC sponsored refresher course on Redefining the Role of Library Profession in Present Scenario began in Panjab University (PU) on Wednesday.
The course,being jointly organised by Academic Staff College and Department of Library and Information Science,PU,has around 21 participants registered,including librarians from states like Karnataka,Himachal Pradesh,Punjab and Haryana.
Speaking on the occasion,Honorary Director,Academic Staff College and Fellow,PU,Professor Karamjit Singh emphasised on the crucial role of institutional libraries and how institutions need to come forward in inventing new avenues for improvement and redefining role of libraries in the digital world. He encouraged the participants to provide feedback through the Academic Staff Colleges website.
Dean,Faculty of Arts,Professor Rajesh Gill,also encouraged the participants to be enthusiastic and interested in receiving and disseminating information during her presidential address.
The inaugural address was delivered by Professor Jagtar Singh from Department of Library and Information Science,Punjabi University,Patiala,who outlined the role of librarians in changing times.
Highlighting the historical and theoretical foundation of the subject and best practices of the profession,he motivated the participants to focus on customer satisfaction and thought provoking mindset in an interactive way.
