Mohali police,on Wednesday,arrested a 24-year-old man who was trying to rape a woman near a public road but was stopped by passers-by. The accused,identified as Jaswinder Singh,is a resident of Mauli Baidwan. He was produced in a local court on Thursday and sent to a days police remand.
According to police,the victim,who works at a private company and stays as a paying guest in Sector 66,was waiting for friends near NIPER in Sector 67 around 7.30 pm on Wednesday evening. The accused allegedly tried to drag the victim into bushes. However,her shouts attracted passers-by,who called the police.
Jaswinder has been booked for attempt to rape under sections 376 and 511 of the Indian Penal Code.
